CEE: Resourceful Women: Dishwashing Machines, Cookbooks, and Apples

Throughout history, resourceful women have imagined, developed, and perfected amazing products. This session includes new picture books featuring three little known woman who excelled at invention and entrepreneurship. Lessons and activities based on economic concepts are included. Featured Books: • The Fabulous Fannie Farmer: Kitchen Scientist and America’s Cook by Emma Bland Smith [2024] • Granny Smith Was Not an Apple: The Story of Orchardist Maria Ann Smith by Sarah Glenn Fortson [2023] • Josephine and Her Dishwashing Machine by Kate Hannigan [2023]

Teachers will be able to:

  • Understand the meaning of entrepreneurial traits
    Recognize the challenges faced by the featured historical women
    Explain motivating factors and opportunities for entrepreneurial women
    Describe factors influencing women’s choices concerning product development and innovation.
